I aim to get 12,000 steps a day of walking. And I know from my days as Editor-in-Chief of Best Health that the key to maximizing those steps is to walk briskly. So take the time to fit in walking whenever you can. One recent evening, I walked 30 minutes to meet friends at a local watering hole. It would have been quicker to take public transit, and I was in a bit of a rush, but walked I did–and was so glad I did, because I saw a little pocket of the city I’d never seen before, even though it’s not too far from home. I took a picture of one of these sweet streets. And by the time I got to my destination, it felt like it had taken just 10 minutes rather than 30. That’s what brisk walking does, and that’s what paying attention to what’s around you also does…making fitness fun.
